I’ve been with New Creations for more than 15 years. When I first started, I had just come from the upholstery trade and I was working for the franchise owner who used to own it.
I was interested in the idea of being my own boss, so when the previous owner approached to see if I wanted to buy the franchise, I decided to do it! I enjoy the work because it’s always great when you can repair and restore someone’s sentimental or personal items when they are in a bit of a bind and don’t know where to look. Whether it’s leather repairs, automotive restorations or furniture refurbishments, it’s rewarding to help someone who doesn’t know if there’s anything that can be done to repair their things. I just get a good feeling from it!

Owning my own franchise wasn’t on my radar when I started, but it happened the next year anyway. I like surprising people with what can be repaired and restored. It can be tricky for people to find a reliable person to conduct repairs and restorations in Grande Prairie, especially across a variety of materials like leather, furniture upholstery, vehicle restorations, glass and vinyl, and many of my customers still don’t know what else we can fix!

I started my career as a technician in January 2006, working in my hometown of Maple Ridge, BC. I bought the rights to the undeveloped franchise area of Grande Prairie in May 2008, and then moved to Calgary in April of 2011.
After some time in Grand Prairie, I saw an opportunity to capture a bigger market with more growth potential. I enjoy the variety and flexibility of owning a New Creations franchise. I enjoy the work itself, like repairing different materials including vinyl, leather and stone, and anything related to vehicle restorations. I also enjoy the challenge of building a business, setting and achieving goals, and providing staff with a great employment opportunity and enjoyable work culture.

I founded the company in 1987 and it’s been a gradual evolution ever since. It started out of necessity – I wanted to be able to survive and provide for myself and my family, and the company grew larger than I expected over the years, which I am grateful for. I head up all the repairs and restorations in tri-cities and beyond.
I absolutely love the independence of work, and I love the feeling I get from being able to conduct furniture upholstery, vinyl restorations and automotive repairs (among many other things!) rather than replace them. When you rescue valuable or sentimental things, you also rescue the people who own them, in a way. You save the day! I love hearing people say “oh wow!” when they see something that we’ve repaired.
